Christof Asbach studied electrical engineering in Duisburg, Germany, where he also received his Ph.D. in 2004 for research on the development of a measurement system for the artifact-free determination of PM2.5 and PM10 in the atmosphere. After a two-year postdoc period at the University of Minnesota, he joined the Institute of Energy and Environmental Technology (IUTA) in Duisburg. In 2013 he became head of the department of Air Quality and Filtration and adjunct lecturer at the University of Duisburg-Essen, where he was appointed honorary professor in 2022. His research interests are in various applications of aerosol science, including air filtration, aerosol characterization, and brake dust emissions. Dr. Asbach has (co-) authored around 100 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of various national and international standardization committees, chairman of the working group Aerosol Measurement Techniques of the European Aerosol Assembly and President of Gesellschaft für Aerosolforschung (since 2020).
